Sagrantino di Montefalco Wine Tour

Car and Limo Service with private driver and chauffeured sedans, minivans for a wine tour in Umbria (Assisi and Perugia area)

The Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG wine is one of Umbria’s finest product, and one of the best wines in Italy, with a history, a tradition, and with exceptional and unique organoleptic characteristics. On reaching the area of Montefalco, a hilly area in the centre of Umbria, always suited to the cultivation of vines, the first winery that you will visit has been certificated as one of the best wineries in Europe, because of the excellence of its Sagrantino. After visiting the experimental vineyards, and the wine-making area, the staff will guide you to the wine tasting, accompanied with the tasting of local cheeses and hams. You will then have some free time for a pleasant stroll through the historical centre of Montefalco and Bevagna, two Medieval villages, historical treasures of Umbria. At the end of the tour we plan to make a stop at a second winery, small and family run, where the natural atmosphere, the wealth of knowledge and tradition are fundamental in the production of this extraordinary wine, exceptional fruit of this marvellous land.

FOCUS ON

Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG: The name seems to come from the fact that since the Middle Ages the Franciscan friars began to produce a sweet wine, devoted to religious rites. Today it is produced in a relatively small area with, at the centre, the village of Montefalco, made exclusively from the variety of grapes from which the wine takes its name. Even today it is produced in two different types: dry and sweet. It has a minimum alcoholic strength of 13,00% and a minimum aging process of 30 months. Ruby-violet in colour, with a delicate fragrance, it has a dry and harmonious taste; it goes very well with red meats, game and aged cheeses, complex dishes made with wild boar, lamb, mushrooms or truffles. It is also great as a meditation wine and lends itself well to further aging.
