Experience out of the beaten path, living the Palio di Siena race and breathing the vibrant energy of the city during the fascinating festival.
Experience can bring you inside one of the 17 contrade (quarters) of the city for attending one of the Contrada banquet dinners for well over a 1,000 Contrada members and their guests. Between the wine, the food and the friendliest of atmospheres, you will surely begin to understand how the Palio is more than just a horse race.
For the Palio di Siena Experience you can decide if view the trail races or join the spectators in the medieval town square of Siena for the race day. The race itself consists of three laps around the square, at the end of which, the winning contrada explode into celebration for the victory. For the winner, pure elation, for the losers the festival is over, but shortly the ongoing spirit of the Palio will begin again, as the Palio in Siena is always alive in the hearts and minds of the city’s inhabitants.

Palio di Siena: The Palio is a cloth painting, prize for the winner of a horse race which takes place every 2nd July and 16th August in the Piazza del Campo in Siena. The origins of the race are to be found in the Middle Ages when the equestrian rides were a public performances taking place in times of peace, and also an occasion for the noble to show off their greatness. The city is divided into 17 districts, of which only 10 alternate in taking part in the competition, each presenting a horse with a jockey mounted. The competition consists of 3 laps of the square and is always preceded by a beautiful parade.
