Vespa: is a famous Italian brand of scooter manufactured by Piaggio. The name stands for the wasp in Italian. The first model of Vespa has been designed by the aeronautic engineer Corradino d’Ascanio and manufactured in 1946 by Piaggio in Pontedera, in Tuscany. Upon seeing the first model for the first time, Enrico Piaggio exclaimed “Sembra una vespa!” (“It looks like a wasp!”). Piaggio effectively named his new scooter on the spot. Produced in many models and different engine sizes, it has a global success; undoubtedly, it is one of the most famous design products in the world and a symbol of the Made in Italy. The Vespa is exhibited in design, modern art, science & technology and transport museums all over the world.
